The Cutera Limelight IPL device is a medical grade, non invasive system that treats superficial hyperpigmentation, including freckles and age spots. The machine uses an adjustable wavelength that can also target redness, damaged capillaries and telangiectasia (tiny veins).
Limelight is commonly used on the face, neck and décolletage but can also be used on the arms and backs of the hands if that is where your concerns lay.
Treatments typically take an hour or less, although this depends on how many areas are being covered. The treatment itself is best delivered in a course of three separate treatments, four weeks apart. This will ensure all areas and depths are treated effectively.
When experiencing the Limelight IPL treatment a mild pinch or sting can be felt. A conductive gel is used to carry out the treatment and then a cooling gel is applied on completion. Anaesthetic and pain medication is usually not required for this treatment.
Immediately after your treatment you will notice some redness and possibly some swelling, any pigmented spots will start to darken as well. Over the next 1-4 weeks the already darkened spots will get darker and then flake off and fade, leaving the skin looking clearer and brighter. Any diffused redness or tiny vessels will decrease and your mottled complexion will also improve.
As we know, the sun exacerbates hyperpigmentation and redness. Controlling these concerns in winter when the sun’s harmful UV rays aren’t as damaging will ensure less risk. Of course precautions have to still be in place but by limiting the risks we will increase your results.
