Breakouts Begin Beneath the Surface

Breakouts Begin Beneath the Surface

Not another breakout!

You’ve avoided high processed foods, cleanse your face each evening, and even use SPF moisturiser to avoid aggravating the pores from producing too much oil. But, for some reason, no matter how careful you seem to be, breakouts continue to occur.

Let’s breakdown what could be occurring within your skin that causes acne to form.

Firstly, what we encounter as “acne” are clogged up hair follicle pores, full of oil, dead skin cells, debris, and bacteria. When either of these become excessive, it can then trigger your skin to react negatively and form acne breakouts.

Excessive oil production can be caused by several factors, most within our control, but some, like our hormones, that we may not be able to manage all the time. You can read all about it in our previous article here.

If you’re not cleansing efficiently to your skin’s type and conditions, dead skin cells may build up and cause blockage within the pores. Oil can become trapped while your skin continues to produce oil, as well as trapping bacteria and other forms of debris. And if the bacteria becomes clogged for too long, it can grow and fester, causing more inflammation and cyst-like.

As you know, there is a lot of things that can trigger your skin to manifest into acne, such as genetics, hormones, stress, food, lack of exercise, and certain products and/or ingredients.

Here, at Skin Revival, we always go through a thorough consultation to assess what factors may be contributing to your acne breakouts. If we can address those, it then becomes easier for professional treatments, and correct product use in your skincare system, to have an effect in reducing your breakouts as well as the intensity of the breakouts.

TREATMENTS

For Active Breakouts & Inflammation

  1. MediLUX Medical Grade LED Therapy
Depending on your skin type and the severity of your acne intensity, multiple colours of LED Light Therapy may be used. But ultimately, we utilise it to target acne-prone areas to reduce and prevent acne-causing bacteria, active breakouts and inflammation for a clearer, brighter complexion.
  2. High Frequency
Using a glass high frequency electrode to treat mild acne, shrink enlarged pores, and reduce bacteria in acne lesions.

For Oily, Congested Pores

  1. Oxygeneo 3-in-1 Super Facial
Oxygeneo provides 3 processes in one treatment with exfoliating the skin by removing all the old dead skin cells, infusing the skin with active ingredients and triggering the natural healing processes, and oxygenates the skin to improve blood flow and accelerates absorption of the healing active ingredients. The treatment gives your skin a breather from acne bacteria, balances oily skin, reduces inflammation, and helps prevent future breakouts.

  2. Hollywood Carbon Peel
With debris clogged within the pores, it is magnetic attracted to stick to the carbon layer applied to the skin, and once a laser runs over the carbon, the debris and acne bacteria are zapped into oblivion! This improves oil balance and acne control.

Deeper Exfoliation/Congestion & Post-Acne Concerns

  1. Enerpeel Chemical Peels
With Enerpeel’s technology to penetrate deep within the skin, it allows us to add non-peeling active ingredients deep into the skin and at the same time to help treat skin issues such as acne.
  2. Dermaviduals Enzyme Treatment (Enzyme + Algae Mask)
Preventing future breakouts is a no brainer with this relaxing treatment as it removes redundant skin cells held captive within the pores, reduces the appearance of the size of the pores, as well as calms inflammation caused by acne bacteria.

PRODUCTS

Salicylic Acid (BHA) is oil-soluble. Meaning, it can move into sebum-filled pores and loosen the mix of oil and sticky dead skin cells that clog the pores. By breaking down the components within the pore, it pushes it all out and prevents re-blockage. Two products that we highly recommend are CIVONA’s Dermal Exfoliance serum & RATIONALE’s #5 The Mask.

Retinoids work powerfully within the follicle lining of the pores. They normalize keratinization (how dead skin cells form and shed) to prevent microscopic blockage before you see a pimple. They also reduce the “stickiness” of dead cells, making it more difficult for blockage to occur within the pores. Two products that we highly recommend that have Retinoids as an active ingredient are Dermaceutic Activ Retinol 0.5 and Biopelle Retriderm Serum Mild 0.5% Retinol.

Zinc Gluconate slows down the growth and reproduction of acne-associated bacteria. It’s also noted to have anti-inflammatory properties to calm the skin from irritation caused by acne bacteria. Two products that we highly recommend containing Zinc Gluconate are Propaira Purifying Cream and CIVONA’s Dermal Radical Protect serum.
