Onychomycosis Treatment

Skin Revival was the first clinic in Australia to employ the latest laser technology to treat the nail fungal condition onychomycosis, a common fungal nail disease causing unsightly looking nails on both the hands and more commonly the feet.

  • Fungal nail infections, also known as onychomycosis, can cause nails to thicken, discolor, and separate from the nail bed

  • Fungal nail infections most commonly affect the toenails, but they can also affect fingernails

While there are other treatments available like daily lacquering (around a 10% success rate), internal medication (50% success rate with high liver stress and inability to retreat if unsuccessful), and the new laser treatments show a 70% to 90% success rate with 3 treatments for mild cases. Additional treatments are required for more moderate to severe cases.

At Skin Revival we have been treating this condition with high success rates and no adverse reaction to the treatment.

What is laser treatment?

The Cutera Laser treatment is safely and effective at treating onychomycosis (nail fungus). By targeting the fungus directly, the laser gets to the source of the problem immediately. Tiny pulses of light from the laser pass through the toenail to the fungus underneath. The fungus is irradicated without any damage to the surrounding nail or skin.

$50 deposit will be taken at time of booking which is redeemable on treatment cost.

The cost of the consultation and 3  x prepaid treatments is $600 (hands OR feet); $900 (hands AND feet)

Treatments are to be booked 4 weeks apart.

The laser feels like a warm sensation on the toes that suddenly builds up to an intense heat like touching an oven, this is the endpoint that we stop, so a very brief intense heat is the only discomfort.

No, we like to treat all the toenails (or fingernails if the hands are affected). This is to aid complete eradication.

As we will be treating all the nails in the affected area (either hands or feet; both hands and feet), the laser procedure will take around 45 – 75 minutes respectively.

Treatment interval is 4 weeks.

Patients will require a minimum of 3 treatments, but some may require additional treatments depending on the level of infection. You will be advised of what to expect at your consultation.

You won’t notice anything immediately following treatment. However, as your nail grows out, the new nail growth should be clear. Toenails grow slowly, especially nails affected with fungus. Consequently it may take 6-12 months for your toenail to be clear.

Re-infection with nail fungus may be acquired anywhere from your environment, for example, damp areas such as public swimming pools or nail salons. Consult with post care instructions to minimise chances of reinfection and take precautions to prevent nail fungus from reoccurring.

Yes, but it must be completely removed prior to your appointment.

You can resume your normal activities immediately.

Medicare doesn’t usually cover laser treatments for fungal nail infections.
