When was the last time you had your skin checked?
Australia has one of the highest rates of Skin Cancer in the world, thanks to our sunny climate, lifestyle and genetics. In fact, skin cancers in our country count for around 80% of diagnosed cancers! The good news is the survival rate is high when skin cancer is detected early…
Did you know … at Skin Revival our Dermoscopists are qualified with a Professional Diploma in Dermoscopy and are experienced and knowledgeable in Skin Cancer Screening!
Dermengine provides a cutting-edge platform that enables us to upload the images taken during your skin check for analysing and ongoing monitoring. If suspicious features for skin cancer are detected from your imaging, the DermEngine platform allows us to transfer your secure encrypted patient file to a skin cancer doctor for closer inspection and diagnosis. This process is seamless and quick and provides convenience when being referred to a doctor where they can easily locate the lesion and view the dermoscopic images and additional information from your skin check.
A professional skin cancer check should be integrated with your treatments at Skin Revival on a regular basis, or more frequently if you have a personal or family history of skin cancer.
What Is DermEngine?
A dermatology software powered by artificial intelligence for the imaging, documentation and analysis of skin conditions. The system helps doctors manage cases like yours, so it’s important that you understand how the platform’s intelligent tools support your care!
What to Expect
Once you arrive and have been checked in, our Dermoscopists will examine your skin and ask basic questions about your medical history along with any factors that could increase your risk for developing skin cancer. We will examine your spots with a Dermoscope, a magnifier that lets us see your mole’s unique features, which will be connected to an Iphone to feed the images into the DermEngine for comparison and diagnosis. With this information, we will take the appropriate measures to refer or manage your case.
How to Prepare
- Clean your skin (no makeup or nail polish)
- Moisturize your skin the day before
- Bring any previous skin documentation (pathology results, checkups)
- Tie your hair back (if applicable)
- Remove jewelry
What is the cost?
- $99 per check for sun exposed areas (Hands, Arms, Face & Neck)
- $149 per check for whole body checks
Medicare rebate available on Fridays (Medicare rebate $37)
Your Dermoscopist will take a moment to discuss the best course of action for your skin health.
Depending on your case, this might look like:
- No further action needed at this time
- Scheduling follow up visits to image and monitor the mole
- A referral to a Skin Cancer Doctor to do a biopsy of the lesion (a sample taken to examine it in further detail) which could lead to a excision (the removal of the mole).
This will not be performed at Skin Revival.

Why are Skin Checks so Important?
Over time, spots on your skin may change and new ones can appear. Having your skin checked regularly helps to identify features that raise suspicion for skin cancer. Early detection of skin cancer can save your life!
Skin checks are an important part of getting to know the skin you’re in and being able to identify any changes that may happen over time to keep your skin healthy. If you notice any new changes to a lesion such as increasing in size, irregular shape, bleeding or color changes contact your physician. When detected early, the survival rate of melanoma (the most serious form of skin cancer) is over 98%. Checking your skin helps you identify suspicious spots sooner rather than later!
Who should get their Skin Checked?
Everyone! People from all backgrounds and skin types will benefit from regular skin checks.
You might be recommended for routine checks if you have:
- Fair skin, red hair or light eye colour
- Many moles (more than 50)
- A personal history of skin cancer
- A family history of skin cancer
- Taken immunosuppressive medication
- An immunosuppressive condition
- Two or more lesions with irregular shape and greater than 6mm
- Extensive sun damage to your skin
- Used sunbeds
- We will often advise you have a skin cancer and mole check before we treat pigmentation
Look out for the Ugly Duckling
An ugly duckling is a lesion that stands out from the rest. Perhaps it’s in an area with no other spots or looks drastically different from the others. When in doubt, ask your skin check expert.
