Dermal Needling

What is Dermal Needling?

Dermal needling, also called medical needling or collagen induction therapy (CIT), helps to stimulate the body’s natural production of collagen. Dermal needling is also beneficial for reducing the appearance of scarring from acne, surgery, or trauma.

Dermal needling causes micro-injury beneath the skin’s surface. This induces the skin’s natural wound healing response which produces a series of growth factors that promote the body’s own production of natural collagen and elastin. The stimulation of new collagen production can continue for up to 12 months following treatment with the results lasting for many years.

Conditions That Will Benefit From Dermal Needling

  • Acne Scars
  • Anti-Wrinkle/Anti-Aging
  • Burn Scars
  • Cosmetic Procedures
  • Stretch Marks
  • Surgical Scars

Is Dermal Needling Right for You?

Dermal needling is natural and the healing period is minimal, with no negative effects, and is safe for all skin types (dark-light).

Dermal needling is not suitable for people who have been on roaccutane in the last 6 months; who have active acne, infections, psoriasis, dermatitis in the area being treated, uncontrolled diabetes, pregnant or breastfeeding, or people prone to keloid scars.

What to Expect During Treatment

Before your treatment, the skin is thoroughly cleansed and numbed with a medical topical anaesthetic for 20-30 minutes.

Once you are fully numbed, we proceed to micro-wound the skin with ultra-fine, medical quality needles. We use either a medical roller up to 2mm in length or a Dermapen up to 4mm to treat scarring.

During the needling treatment, most clients report feeling no discomfort, while some feel a slight pricking sensation, but no pain.

Manual Needling

Benefits of Dermal Needing

  • improves skin’s texture and reduces wrinkles
  • lightens pigmentation marks
  • restores elasticity
  • reduces pore size
  • minimises scarring

serums that are applied to the skin afterward are   100% more effective as the pores are opened and the product is absorbed deeper into the skin

What to Expect After Treatment

Immediately after treatment your skin will appear quite red. The discoloration will slowly reduce over the first few hours. You may also feel tightness and extra sensitivity, but this will also reduce over the coming hours.

Post care instructions following treatments

Following the treatment, your clinician will discuss the post care with you. It is customized depending on the symptoms we are treating and the particular treatment performed.

But as a guide, we recommend

  • No touching of the facial areas for at least 12 hours directly following treatment.
  • Use only skincare prescribed by your clinician.
  • Daily sun protection using zinc oxide based sunscreen.
  • Keep skin clean from environmental contaminates for at least 24 hours.

As you have many micro wounds in the treated area, it is important to insure that you keep this area as sterile as possible. For at least 12 hours following treatments there should be no touching the area, no exercise, no sun exposure, no spray tans, no make-up, and no sleeping on the pillow where the cat has slept (yes, it has happened!).

Dermapen treatment

And remember, avoid using un-prescribed skin care products for at least 3 or 4 days.

Although down time is minimal the following may occur:

  • redness
  • swelling
  • itching
  • sensitivity
  • tightness
  • dryness
  • flaking and peeling

Should you feel you are having any adverse effects after treatment please contact us as soon as possible.
