Double Chin / Fat-Dissolving Injections

‘Double Chin Fat Dissolving’ is an injection procedure that dissolves fat and tightens tissue in the under chin/ neck area.

The procedure is approved by the TGA in Australia for the removal of under chin fat.
It is an effective, permanent,  safe and gradual non-surgical injectable treatment to reshape the neck and jawline.

Like all injectable treatments performed at Skin Revival, the treatment is customised for each individual patients’ needs. Patients report a high level of satisfaction and great improvement in self esteem after the treatment. As the treatment is non-invasive with less downtime, it gives a very natural look.

What causes a double chin?

There are several potential causes for a double chin. Genetics plays a big part, even if the patient has a slim profile, a double chin can still be present due to genetics.
Age is also a major factor, our skin and muscles lose elasticity, and this can lead to the appearance of a double chin. Change in weight can also contribute to a double chin, with excess weight around the facial area which can be notoriously difficult to get rid of.

How do fat disolving injections work?

The product used  contains deoxycholic acid (DCA), a substance which occurs naturally in  the body and aids the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat by breaking down fat cells when injected into the neck fat below the chin. The body then absorbs the fat.

When injected subcutaneously, DCA disrupts the membranes of fat cells leading to irreversible cell breakdown, causing mild inflammation which takes around 28 days to resolve.
Cells then start to produce more collagen helping to firm and tighten the area.

How many treatments are required?

Treatment for this area is generally not a 1 off treatment.
Most patients will need a minimum of 2-6 treatments, spaced 4 weeks apart to see maximum results.

Is it permanent?

Yes, according to the long term study data, which is up to 5 years and over 9 years in clinical study. There have been more than 20 clinical studies conducted worldwide.

What are the side effects?

Pain, bruising swelling, redness and numbness are common, some patients experience bleeding, areas of firmness, and itching and pins and needles. Rare side effects include nodules and transient neuropraxia of a facial nerve which causes smile asymmetry, usually resolved within 6-8 weeks. However, in long term follow up no adverse effects on skin laxity were noted.

How is the treatment performed?

As always, the patient is consulted by the doctor to assess their suitability for the treatment. After the consultation, the doctor will assess the correct dosage and give a quote for treatment.
The patients will then be injected then ice afterwards for 10 minutes. Paracetamol is suitable for pain relief. Anti inflammatory such as ibuprofen and steroids should be avoided,
as the inflammatory response may be an important part of treatment success.

What to do after treatment?

Do not massage for 72 hours. Panadol may be taken if there is pain.
Patients must be aware that results may not be visible for up to 6 weeks.
And may not be visible until after the second or third treatment.
Also skin continues to tighten after treatment even after swelling subsides.

An appointment should be made for 6-8 weeks after the treatment for review and follow up treatment
